Moving-CoWhen moving into a new home, there are plenty of things you can do before the trucks arrive to make sure everything goes smoothly.  All of the little details you prepare beforehand really can add up to make your move a much better experience.  Let’s face it, we’ve all moved at least

once before and wish we would have done just a little more to get ready.  Here are some tips and tricks to really help make sure your move is a smooth one.

Tip Number 1:  De-clutter and get organized:

Now is a great time to make sure your new space is more organized and less cluttered. This is a great tip for an empty-nester who is downsizing, or even if you’re moving into your first home or apartment. Go through all your items to determine what you use and what you don’t, then donate, sell or throw away the unused or unwanted items.

Tip Number 2:  Clean, paint and renovate before furniture arrives:

Before you move things into your home, take advantage of having a blank slate to update your new space by cleaning, tearing down wallpaper you don’t like or even painting the walls without having to move or cover furniture.  Looking to change up that small bedroom into an office?  Make sure you are organized and ready to clean and paint the room while you have space.

Don’t know how to paint?  No problem, hire a local professional to make sure that the job gets done right.  You’re better off getting the work completed before the big move in day.

Duct Dudes NJIf you are moving in the winter, change the furnace filter and pad in the whole house humidifier. Make sure that your home is nice and warm when you enter.  In addition to having the heating system checked, you should also have your air ducts cleaned by a certified NJ air duct cleaning company, like Duct Dudes.

When you hire Duct Dudes, you get more than hired help. You get educated technicians that are certified in their craft. We have our technicians get OSHA certified for safety and NADCA certified for air duct cleaning.

Tip Number 4:  Inspect and update safety items:

Replace the batteries in the smoke detectors or carbon monoxide detectors to make sure your family is safe if there is a fire or gas leak. You will also want to check the pressure gauge on the home’s fire extinguisher to ensure it is in the “green,” and make sure the safety pin is intact and the nozzle unobstructed.

Tip Number 5:  Change locks and codes:

Tip Number 6:  Change your address:

One thing that is vital when you move is to notify the U.S. Post Office to have your mail forwarded to your new address. You should also contact your bank, credit cards and other accounts to start getting your mail delivered to your new address directly.
